Different Energy Sources

We need different energy sources to work and live. Geothermal, solar, wind and biomass are just a few of the sources. These sources aren’t only an important source of electricity, but they can also be used to heat or transport. The major issue with these sources of energy is that they can create greenhouse gas emissions when they are burned to generate electricity. This is why there is a need for more green energy sources.

The most common kind of energy is called fossil fuels, made up of coal oil, natural gas. They were formed millions of years ago when prehistoric animals and plants died and were then buried under layers of sedimentary rocks. Under the right conditions, these fossil fuels were slowly transformed into carbon-rich materials that, when burnt create energy. These fossil fuels won’t be renewable because they will be depleted in our lifetimes, or in many lives.

Renewable energy sources are constantly replenished. The primary renewable energy source is sunlight, which gives light and heat. We utilize it for our homes, businesses, and cars. Wind is an energy source that is renewable and produces electricity by spinning turbines. Since the first time people realized how to harness the wind in the past, we have been using it for millennia. In addition, we employ biochemical processes to create alcohol (a clear alcohol that can be used as fuel) from waste and crop residues.

Hydropower is the largest renewable energy source in America, however biofuels and wind are likely to surpass it. Hydropower relies on nature’s cyclic water cycle to harness the power of swiftly flowing water, which is used for electricity generation.
